Transcend Information, Inc. (Transcend), an international leader in memory products and peripherals, has been honoured as one of Taiwan’s Top 20 global brands by Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs. The “Taiwan Top 20 Global Brands” award to Transcend was given in recognition of Transcend‘s brand value, which is currently at US$ 244 million – 36% higher than last year. This marks the fourth consecutive year that Transcend has been listed in the Top 20, proving the effectiveness of its recent brand management strategies.

Mr. Austin Huang, Regional Head - Sales, SAARC & APAC, Transcend, said, “Since its inception in 1988, Transcend has made brand image its number one priority by consistently focusing on its own-brand business. With superior product quality and excellent customer service, Transcend maintains a vast, loyal customer base. Its comprehensive network of 13 offices worldwide has not only made Transcend a highly diversified international enterprise, but has also established the company as a fast-growing global memory brand.”

Transcend’s global sales revenue for the month of August soared US$90.8 million. As for the company’s August product shipment breakdown, flash memory products contributed to 48.28% of sales, while DRAM modules accounted for 40.08%. New product lines including MP3 players, portable hard drives and digital photo frames amounted to 11.65% of the company’s total sales revenue. In addition, Transcend’s combined total product shipment reached 6.76 million pieces in August. The major contributors to this total were flash-based products, of which 5.03 million units were shipped. Shipments of DRAM-based products totaled 1.43 million pieces. New product lines reached 390,000 pieces, which is an increase of 17% from July’s shipment total. Amid the new product lines, portable hard disk drives (HDD) experienced particularly remarkable growth.

The global demand of notebook computers is on the rise, which in turn has driven up the need for increased storage capacity. As a result, Transcend’s HDD shipment reached a record breaking total of 100,000 pieces in August. This figure is a huge growth of 48% compared to last month’s hard drive shipment. In the next few months, Transcend expects shipments and sales revenue of its strategic products, including digital media players, digital photo frames and HDDs to continue to grow steadily due to the coming Christmas holiday.

The Taiwan Top 20 Global Brands study has been evaluating Taiwan’s leading companies for six years. The brand valuation methodology used in assessing Taiwan’s international brands is the same one used for BusinessWeek magazine’s “Top 100 Global Brands.” Developed by the British consulting firm Interbrand, this model uses a combination of quantitative financial analysis and qualitative indicator interpretation to rank companies by overall brand value. In Business Week magazine`s 2008 InfoTech 100, a list of the world`s top 100 technology companies, Transcend currently ranks a respectable No. 62 overall, and No. 7 in the semiconductor industry.
